FAL Q4 List

I am linking up with two projects I would like to finish.  This Xmas wallhanging has been waiting to be finished for a number of years.

Xmas Angel Wallhanging

The second quilt is ready to be quilted.

I will be quite busy over summer so will be happy to complete these.  Anything else I finish from previous posts will be a bonus.

Happy quilting.

Q3 Finish Along

Hi everyone,
I am so pleased to have completed my owl quilt.  All quilted and I have bound it with a cream and brown stripe fabric.  The quilt is now on it's way to Australia for a new baby due at the end of October.  The quilt is approximately 47 x 47 inches.  The back is a lovely soft wincyette.  I have taken outdoor and indoor photos because the sun was so bright, though I don't think it has made much difference.

I look forward to viewing all Q3 finishes.

Nature Photos and a Quilt Top

A couple of photos I took from my window.  I had looked out and there were these two Kereru (Wood Pigeons), native New Zealand birds.  They are very big and to see them sitting on the very flimsy branches was amazing.  I grabbed my camera quickly.

A photo of the colourful polyanthus in my garden edging my vege garden.  They have been a colourful spot with all the rain and cold wind we have had.  I am so looking forward to spring and summer and w-a-r-m-t-h and summer veges.

Number 2 Baby Quilt top has been pieced and is ready for quilting. Photos below show the progress as I have worked on it this year.
I saw this quilt (designed by Mary Cowan) in a book "Colourful Stashbusters".  I have made hexagon flowers where Mary had five petal appliqued flowers. I made mine in pink and blue because my friend Glenys had given me some materials and the border material and I added extra out of my stash.
And yes that is jumbo size pink and blue rickrac in the white rows!

I am in the middle of quilting Quilt No. 1, the Owl Quilt as in my previous blog.

I am wanting to make a another quick quilt for a baby. I will make it so that it can be used as a wall-hanging as well. I love the bright colours.

This is for the backing.

There has been a lot of progress made on other projects which I will write about soon.

Take care
Pamela

Q3 Finish-Along New List

Hi everyone.
It was great to see all the finishes for Q2. My daughter was pleased with her bag. I still have a long way to go with my finishes.  I feel inspired by Mary Huey's tutorial for Q2.  I am going to sew at least 20 minutes each day and keep a journal and Mary's tutorial and this Finish-Along have given me the motivation.

1.  Owl Quilt - to be quilted and bound.

2. Babies Quilt - Just about ready to be stitched together. I have been working on the hexagon blocks during Q2.

3. Xmas Wallhanging - this is an unfinished challenge and as I have just been out for a mid-winter Xmas dinner I decided I would include this and have it finished for Xmas this year.

4. Quilt as You Go - My daughter's gave me this book Quilt-As-You-Go Made Modern by Jera Brandvig for my birthday, and I want to make a babies quilt,  I love all the quilts in the book and I haven't tried quilt-as-you-go.

5. Log Cabin - Needs to be quilted and bound,

6. I want to make another bag.

7. Babies Quilt - This is a top and needs to be quilted.

I have set myself quite a challenge so here goes!!!

Quarter 2 Finish Along Finish

Hi and welcome

I am very pleased to have finished a bag (from Adrianne's tutorial) for my daughter's birthday.  I received a text yesterday to say it had arrived safely in Sydney. She is going to keep it and open it on her birthday on the 7th July.

I am very pleased with the finish. I used the 'Soft and Stable' batting recommended and liked the firm but soft bag. It is peacocks on the outside.

And peacock feathers for the pockets.  One side has a zip pocket.

The other side has three pockets with my ruler in the middle one.

This is the card and envelope I found to send with the present.

I enjoyed making this bag and want to make more now.

I am linking this post up with the 2015 Finish Along onthewindyside.blogspot.com

Cheers

List for Q2 Finish-Along

Hello and welcome

To friends I have told about my blog and those who have found it and my daughter who wanted to put it on her facebook page.

I am very pleased with my finish for Q1 and want to do more off my list this quarter especially as I am starting to make a list of quilts I want to make when I have done them.

1,  Owl Quilt to quilt and bind.

2.  I have added this new project to my list because I want to make two bags from Adrianne's tutorial. I think they will make lovely presents.

3.  I am slowly working on this one.  The hexagons are hand-stitched and I do them while watching television.  It is a baby quilt with rows of white between the strips.

4.  This log cabin quilt is already to be quilted.  I am looking forward to doing this and getting it completed,.

5.  This cat quilt top is a very old unfinished quilt from about 1995.  The photo doesn't show it off very well but I will quilt it and get a better photo.  It has a lot of buttons sewn on it, I don't know why I did that before quilting, but I will have to take them off.  I will have to record where each one goes because they all look especially chosen.

Detail of one of the cats.

 6.  Baby's quilt top ready to be quilted.

7.  Another baby's quilt top ready to be quilted.  I enjoyed blanket stitching the hearts with variegated embroidery thread.

8,  I want to finish this quilt this year.  It is my oldest UFO.  I will have to plan to do a little each week alongside whatever project I am working on.

I have chosen a variety of quilts to finish so that I can pick and choose what I can work on.  My goal is two finishes this quarter.

I am going to link up with the adrianne's blog Q2 Finish-Along.

Enjoy creating,
Pamela

Finished Quilt

I am so pleased that I have been able to complete one of my Finish Along goals at www.onthewindyside.co.nz with Adrianne.

This small baby's quilt (Tumbling Blocks) was number 2 on my list,  I wanted to start small and practise my machine quilting.  I am very pleased with how it turned out.  I am especially pleased with the back.  I pieced it in a modern design because I can't wait to finish my ufo's and start on other quilts.

This quilt has been on the go for a long time; worked on and then put away; paper pieced and made out of scraps.  Some of the scraps were given to me by my great great aunt who started patchwork back in the 1970's when visiting America.  She is now 101 years old.

The quilt measures 30 inches x 36 inches and the top was already to be sandwiched and machine quilted.

I am really looking to Q2 and finishing some more off my list.

Owl Quilt & Stonestead Outdoor Quilt Exhibition

Hi friends and fellow quilters,
I have finished this third baby quilt and here is the photo.  It is a panel quilted I have quilted.  This is not a finish along quilt.  I have one in progress, pinned and ready to be quilted.

Doll's Quilt
I made this doll's quilt for my little friend Isabelle but now she is nearly 5 years old and her little sister Emily (2 on Thursday 19 Feb) has inherited it.  It has been well loved.

Here is a photo of the two of them,, 'mischievous film stars', taken by Mum Megan.

Stonestead Outdoor Quilt Exhibition
This was held on 8 February 2015 at Upper Hutt, New Zealand.  This is an annual event and it was a sunny day with a light breeze.  Just beautiful.  The quilts looked so lovely hanging in the outdoors. Next door in an old barn they served Devonshire teas to die for!!

These quilts were in the exhibition and were made by my friend, Doreen Parker, and are quite an achievement. They are hand-pieced and hand-quilted, a Baltimore and a Dear Jane Quilt. Doreen has kept a journal on her Dear Jane quilt as it progressed and it makes interesting reading. Congratulations Doreen, (We have been quilting together for nearly thirty years and I enjoy having a friend who does such beautiful work.

I took some photos of other quilts but I will have to borrow a catalogue (I gave mine to someone who arrived towards the end and didn't have one) before I can post them.
